SPECIAL INFORMATION:

• Court reporters may retain transcript fees, at the discretion of the judge.
• Successful applicant will be subject to a criminal background check.
• An employee new to the Judicial Branch will serve a one-year probationary period.

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will either maintain the official court record by running and maintaining electronic recording equipment or by capturing a verbatim record of court proceedings with stenographic equipment.

The electronic court reporter will operate state of the art recording equipment to record the court record, move and set-up the equipment in courtrooms as needed, attend court proceedings, and produce transcripts as requested by court parties.

The steno court reporter attends court, captures a verbatim record of court proceedings using approved equipment and provides transcripts in accordance with rules of court, state statutes, legal guidelines and policies.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A STENO COURT REPORTER:

Thorough knowledge of court procedures, English grammar, punctuation and legal terminology and court reporting equipment. Graduation from high school and an approved court reporter program is required. Experience as an official reporter in a courtroom setting is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A ELECTRONIC COURT REPORTER:

Graduation from an approved high school supplemented by approved course work in secretarial sciences or paralegal training and experience in a legal or court office. Must have the ability to operate a computerized recording system, to troubleshoot problems as they occur, and to quickly develop solutions. An understanding of court procedures is also necessary. Excellent typing skills and the ability to produce transcripts is required. Minimum qualifications include at least three years of high-level clerical work working with various computer software programs. Experience with computerized recording equipment is preferred.
