This position is responsible for surveying health care centers with Medicare and Medicaid to assure compliance with federal regulations. Compliance with federal regulations allows the facility to bill Medicare and Medicaid for services rendered. Responsibilities include, determining if care, treatment, and services are consistent with Federal requirements; communicating non-compliance issues with key personnel; conducting follow-up visits to resolve deficient practices.
Major Duties or Responsibilities:
Medicare-Medicaid on-site surveys
- Conducts on-site surveys of Medicare-Medicaid certified health care facilities to determine compliance with Federal regulations.
- Surveys require preparations such as: off-site preparation, tour of facility, observation of care, record review, interviews of staff and families, etc.
- Determines if care, treatment, and services are consistent with Federal requirements. Evaluates all aspects of the health care facility system from the quality of care to the consumers’ rights and physical plant.
- Communicates the non-compliance issues with key personnel throughout the site review and during the exit conference to assure an understanding of the deficiencies cited. Determines if a plan of correction is acceptable.
- Conducts follow-up visits and monitoring surveys to ascertain if facilities’ plans of correction to resolve the deficient practice have been implemented.
Approval Plan
- Reviews facility plans of correction and makes recommendation for approval.
Training
- Assists with facility and bureau training.
- Participates in workgroups as needed.
Physical and Environmental Demands: This position requires extensive amount of driving. 50% of time will be driving in various weather conditions. Driving may be required daily for local or out of town travel. Including approximately 8-10 days of overnight stays per month. Extensive walking is also required during survey weeks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Behaviors):
Required for the first day of work:
- Basic medical practitioner knowledge.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to interpret regulations and make decisions based on those regulations.
- Ability to identify problems, develop and implement solutions.
- Ability to work with a variety of team members to produce a single survey product.
Qualifications:
Required Minimum Education and Experience:
- Licensed healthcare practitioner (licensure requirements include a related bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Two years of work experience in a healthcare-related field, or other directly-related clinical experience.
- Registered Nurse highly desirable.
- Other combinations of related education and work experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
