Job Overview : This position conducts criminal and/or civil investigations of illegal gambling, alcoholic beverage, or tobacco activities throughout the state of Montana. Those duties range from confidential, sensitive, and high priority investigations of misdemeanors and felony crimes committed in the State of Montana (Title 23, Chapter 5, MCA; Title 16, Chapters 3, 4 and 11), to providing investigative support through background and suitability checks, financial, corporate and other inquiries of applicants for licensure, and non-institutional lenders to ensure they comply with the public policy of the state concerning gambling and liquor licensing. Provides investigative support to various law enforcement agencies; collects, maintains, disseminates and secures investigative records; and presents various law enforcement trainings throughout the state, including the Montana Law Enforcement Academy.



Qualifications:


Extensive knowledge concerning developing, conducting and presenting complex criminal cases; a thorough knowledge of Federal, State and local laws dealing with crimes, criminal procedure, rules of evidence, and seizures related to contraband, criminal justice information and privacy/security regulations; Have exceptional communication skills and knowledge and/or experience with community policing strategies.

Must be P.O.S.T. certified and in good standing

Education:
1. Bachelor’s degree in a police sciences-related field. Five (5) years of law enforcement experience with a minimum of two (2) years as a full time investigator handling a variety of felony investigations comparable to those a Montana Gambling Investigation Bureau agent is expected to handle. OR;

2. Two (2) years of college (preferably in a police science related field) Seven (7) years of law enforcement experience with a minimum of four (4) years as a full time investigator handling a variety of felony investigations comparable to those a Montana Criminal Gambling Investigation Bureau Agent is expected to handle, OR;

3. High School diploma, ten (10) years of law enforcement experience, Advanced POST certificate or higher.

Other combinations of education and experience than those listed above will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
