Maintenance Crew Leader (P) - Richey
Performs a variety of work as a laborer, equipment operator, and truck driver in conjunction with supervisory duties as a crew leader while coordinating special maintenance projects such as: culvert placement and installation; landslide removal; herbicide application; crack sealing; fence building or bridge repair; guardrail or sign installation; roadway repair; vegetation and roadside maintenance; striping operations; winter road maintenance operations. Knowledge and understanding of the union contracts and environmental procedures. A working knowledge of the MUTCD, standard drawings and traffic control operations. Contract administration in conjunction with contracted pavement overlays, chip sealing, crack sealing and striping projects. Plans and assigns on-site work procedures and instructs and monitors employees equipment operations and maintenance procedures; performs field inspections of utility and approach installations and monitors encroachments; inspects section to assess needs and informs supervisor of additional material, manpower or equipment needs; informs supervisor of any unusual problems; completes, analyzes and makes adjustments to maintenance management reports; computer knowledge to utilize the Remote Weather information sites, MMS, and e-mail. Assumes the Field Maintenance Supervisor A position on an as needed basis and performs all related work with this position.
This position will be assigned to a remote section site (satellite) in Richey within the Circle section working independently and being removed from the day-to-day operations of the section headquarters. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications:
Required to perform the duties of this position are three years of experience in a highway maintenance environment. Requires knowledge of highway maintenance and equipment typically assigned to a section; basic math and record keeping procedures and techniques; MMS and policies and procedures of the Department. Requires the ability to supervise effectively; to elicit cooperation from employees and the public; to communicate effectively.
A valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with endorsements for air brakes and tankers is required.
Physical Demands : Must be able to perform moderate physical activity in lifting, carrying, and/or operating the tools, equipment and materials listed above. Must work in all types of weather conditions, dirt, dust, moisture, temperature, and fumes
