DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: A PSI Writer works with a Probation and Parole Officer (PPO) under the supervision of Probation and Parole Officer II (POII). This is a key position that must be versatile and maintain a high degree of competency, tact, initiative, confidentiality, as well as display a high degree of accuracy. The position(s) ensures data integrity for community supervised offenders on the statewide offender tracking system and ensures appropriate flow of information to various entities. These positions are an integral part of the Department of Corrections and Probation and Parole Division.

POSITION SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work consists of writing pre-sentence investigation and assisting the PO which may require contact with probation, parole and conditional release offenders. Offenders and other information sources may be hostile and pose a physical threat, which requires the use of special precautions. Some travelling within the assigned region may be require and occasionally to other regions in the state.

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 10+ pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This position also involves some occasional travel within the assigned.


Qualifications:


The above knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform this position are typically acquired through an associate’s degree in criminology, human behavior and social work or related fields AND two years law enforcement or public safety experience. Some higher education in criminology, human behavior and social work and related fields and two years’ experience in law enforcement or public safety preferred; OR a combination of higher education and experience.
