This position is part of the Statewide Accounting Bureau and is responsible for providing assistance and training to local governments to help ensure compliance with local, state and national budgeting and financial reporting standards, rules and laws. This position is also responsible for reviewing annual financial reports and budget documents submitted by local governments. This position works collaboratively with other accountants and auditors, providing the technical assistance and training.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field;

  • Two years of job-related experience in accounting, budgeting and/or auditing;

  • Experience with local governments and/or governmental accounting and budgeting would be a plus;

  • Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Competencies :

Knowledge of:

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and budgeting.


Ability to:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing;

  • Work confidently and communicate professionally with various stakeholders, which may include local government officials and employees, State agencies, local government associations, and members of the public;

  • Address conflict situations with diplomacy and tact;

  • Work with individuals with widely-varying degrees of knowledge and experience;

  • Work independently, and take initiative and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility;

  • Analyze, study, research, critically think, and have attention to detail;

  • Work collaboratively to establish and maintain effective working relationships;

  • Determine priorities in a changing environment and adjust workload accordingly to manage competing priorities;

  • Provide training to small and large groups;

  • Interpret and apply regulatory accounting technical literature;

  • Research, develop, and implement accounting policies and/or complex problems with technical and non-technical people;

  • Adapt to changing conditions and work responsibilities.
