Job Overview: This position serves as lead worker over the residential custodians and reports to the Maintenance Manager. The residential custodians have the responsibility of providing janitorial and laundry services to ensure patients, staff, and visitors have a clean, safe, sanitary, and attractive environment as well as an adequate supply of clean linens and clothing every day. Responsibilities include delegating work assignments for staff, scheduling employee work shifts and leave, reviewing timekeeping functions, monitoring inventory levels and quality of work, providing training to staff, and coordinating activities of the residential custodians with the maintenance staff.

Major Duties or Responsibilities:

Custodian Lead Worker Duties

  • Serves as lead worker monitoring and assisting with custodian duties to ensure patient rights to adequate and clean-living facility, linens, and clothing are being met.

  • Delegates daily work assignments to all residential custodians ensuring all duties are performed as required and that there is coverage of mandatory daily activities.

  • Reviews timekeeping functions of all staff as necessary to ensure proper recording of time worked. Schedules all vacations, holidays, and other leaves to ensure continued coverage of all required areas can be accommodated.

  • Coordinates activities of the residential custodians with maintenance and support staff indicating areas where repairs and/or assistance are required to properly complete assigned responsibilities.

  • Resolves problems, demonstrates proper work methods, and reports to supervisor on staff performance or need for additional training.

  • Monitors inventory levels within the custodian department submitting supply orders as needed to supervisor for approval.

  • Assists with on-the-job training and in-service training on the appropriate use of chemicals and proper janitorial techniques for personnel.

  • Periodically assists with inspections of the facility to evaluate and verify proper work procedures are being performed up to required standards and reports any deficiencies to supervisor.

  • Monitors quality of work and enters data for Quality Assurance Reports.

  • Serves as a liaison with Montana State Prison addressing all areas of complaint and concern with the completed laundry product being received from Montana State Prison.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Prints continuing education credit work for maintenance staff to read and reports completing to the continuing education representatives.

  • May serve on interview panels and assist with hiring new employees.

Physical and Environmental Demands: Must be able to perform physical labor, stand, walk, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds. Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, fumes, dirt, and dust. Potential risk for exposure to blood and body fluids, air borne diseases, HIV, Hepatitis, and Tuberculosis. Work will be performed primarily indoors, but will transition throughout the day between buildings.


Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required for the first day of work :

  • General knowledge of janitorial procedures and operating various pieces of cleaning equipment.

  • Skills in proper cleaning techniques, including infection control procedures and policies.

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and assign work to staff ensuring adequate coverage.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and protect patient’s rights and confidentiality.

  • Ability to be comfortable working around mentally ill and security risk patients.

  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work.

  • Ability to follow instructions and perform accurate and thorough work.

  • Skill in mentoring, assigning and reviewing work, and providing guidance to others.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Efficient and cost effective organizational skills.

  • Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment such as spreadsheets, word processing, data base, email, internet, and other computer programs.

Minimum Qualifications :

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Two years of experience performing custodial work.

· Two years of data entry and computer experience.

· 80 % minimum on a Basic data entry test, and 2016 basic excel test as certified by your local Job Service and submitted with your application. If these tests are not submitted with your application, you will not be considered for this position.

· Experience working with laundry is preferred.

· Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case by case basis.
