Job Overview: Provides psychological assessment, documentation, and treatment of multiple, complex, and complicated mental health issues using a variety of methods that requiring knowledge, skills, and experience per licensure.
Essential Functions:
Provision of Therapeutic Clinical Services

Provides individual and group therapies. -
Conducts clinical interviews and psychological assessments to address specific referral questions by selection and administration of appropriate tests and interview procedures. -
Conducts mental status examinations, neuropsychological assessments, applied behavioral analysis when referred by a provider. -
Identifies therapy approaches for suitability for various types of treatment. -
Oversees neuropsychological examinations and applied behavioral analysis when ordered by the court. May provide comprehensive patient reports and analysis used in the disposition of a treatment case. -
Meets individually with referred patients to work on therapeutic tasks for overcoming neurophysiologic and behavioral issues.
Treatment Planning and Implementation

Facilitates treatment plan development to arrive at consensus decisions of the most appropriate individualized treatment plan by assisting with identification and wording of problems, goals, objectives, and interventions, and selecting quality treatment approaches for a patient. -
Completes recommitment reports of seriously mentally ill, civil and criminal patients to recommend to the court effective disposition of the case by reviewing collateral data, interviewing patients, receiving feedback from the treatment team, and writing a comprehensive report. -
Testifies in court as a psychologist treating MSH patients. -
Provides detailed therapy approaches for therapy groups.
Treatment Team Responsibilities

Consults with the nursing staff or providers on progress or problems of individual patient’s therapy as needed. -
Conducts family consultations with patient families to help family members understand the patient’s mental illness by encouraging family growth and support. -
Serves as a resource to advise and collaborate in the development of therapy provided by other services according to acceptable practices. -
Provides direct consultation as appropriate concerning the use of psychological techniques, therapeutic treatment of patients, diagnostic procedure, psychological testing, and/or approaches to therapeutic treatment of patients. -
Recommends, coordinates, and/or provides staff development activities to meet the specific training and educational needs of treatment unit personnel.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
Clinical, Medical, and Nursing Services positions primarily work on treatment units and in a clinic setting. These positions are involved in the treatment of persons who pose unpredictable and physically aggressive behavior requiring staff intervention and possible risk of injury to staff. Employees in these positions may be expected to assist with patient crisis interventions. These positions are also involved in the evaluation and treatment of persons with histories of serious criminal acts. Training in hospital approved intervention techniques and Mental Health Professional Person Certification are required.

Required for the first day of work:

Ability work as a psychologist per licensure in the State of Montana. -
Working knowledge of Clinical Treatment techniques provided for Adult Psychiatric Patients including subgroups of patients with: psychotic disorders; mood disorders; personality disorders; substance use disorders; patients involved in the criminal justice system; geriatric patients; and other mental health disorders. -
Understanding of individual and team approaches to treatment and therapy for the provision of mental health care. -
Effective Interviewing and information gathering techniques. -
Ability to compose and provide information in the form of reports and complete clinical documentation. -
Ability to model effective communication, verbally and in writing. - Ability to Analyze, assemble, and organize information.

Functionality in the use of communication technology.
Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an institution accredited by the American Psychological Association is required. Completion of a pre-doctoral internship accredited by the American Psychological Association is required. Licensure as a psychologist in Montana is preferred but candidates who are licensed in another state, and eligible for a provisional psychologist license in Montana, will be considered. Post-doctoral experience working in hospital setting, community mental health center, or with clients who have serious and disabling mental illness is preferred.
