At DNRC we are passionate about our ensuring Montana’s land and water resources remain a benefit today and for future generations. We are actively seeking an executive level manager who values the vast resources in our treasure state as much as we do.
Yes, we fight fire across Montana and provide volunteer fire departments with resources, but are you aware we own 5.2 million acres of state land that generates revenue for K-12 schools? Last fiscal year our Trust Lands Division distributed over $43 million. We also are a significant financial resource to assist small communities through grant funding to restore their natural resources who otherwise would not have the means to do so. We are looking for an individual that is comfortable managing controversial issues with a high degree of integrity and can sustain working in these conditions on an ongoing basis. To be successful in this role you must have demonstrated success developing and maintaining broad professional relationships with those that may have opposing views, controversial views and polarized opinions as well as have a broad knowledge and experience with natural resource issues and the legislative process.
The position will work out of the Helena office and reports to the Director. The position operates in close coordination with the Chief of Staff. The Deputy directly supervises five executive level managers located throughout the state who administer our divisions.
You should expect to travel on a frequent basis (50%) to attend hearings, committees, visit DNRC offices and various conservation groups located across the state. You will represent the Director when needed at legislative hearings, public meetings and media interviews and events.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, natural resource management or a related field and a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience with program administration and oversight, budget formulation, organizational management, and policy development.
Experience working with tribal, local, state, federal and non-profit businesses and interest groups is preferred.
Alternative combinations of relevant and directly related education and experience may be considered.
