JOB OVERVIEW:
Are you an industrial hygienist looking for a challenging position that will allow you to travel throughout Montana and visit various sectors of industry? If conducting workplace assessments to identify health and safety hazards to protect workers interests you, then consider joining the Safety and Health Bureau's Consultation Program as an Industrial Hygienist/Occupational Health & Safety Specialist.
As an Industrial Hygienist/Occupational Health & Safety Specialist you will:
- Conduct onsite workplace assessments.
- Conduct sampling to determine workplace exposures.
- Provide recommendations to control and eliminate safety and health hazards.
- Provide safety and health training.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities:
Knowledge of :
- OSHA Standards and the Montana Safety Culture Act and have the ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards in various sectors of industry.
- Air sampling instruments, direct reading equipment, interpretation of sampling data and principles in workplace controls.
Skills in :
- Computer applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, internet search engines, data entry, etc.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
Ability to :
- Work independently and with a team.
- Prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Coordinate weekly workload with the supervisor.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to travel throughout the state using a state issued vehicle. Must have a valid driver's license and meet the criteria of the State of Montana Vehicle Use Policy. Must be able to wear appropriate PPE determined by onsite visits (hard hat, respirator, hearing protection, etc.)
Occasional out of state travel for training and conferences. Overnight stays due to work related, long distance, in-state travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of one-year experience with industrial hygiene as the primary function.
- Knowledge/experience may also be obtained through a Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene or closely related field.
- Safety & Health Professional designations are preferred: ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
