JOB OVERVIEW:

If so, then you may be interested in the Lead Claims Examiner position in the Employment Relations Division .

As the Lead Claims Examiner you will:
  • Provide training, direction and support for claims examiners within the Division.
  • Work a variety of workers' compensation claims to determine whether coverage is available and with what insurer while determining compensability.
  • Act as key contact for internal and external customers on workers' compensation claim and medical regulation issues.
  • Collaborate with staff attorney and management when disputes arise.


Qualifications:


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities:

Knowledge of :
  • Current issues and national trends relating to medical regulations.
  • Processing medical/insurance claims including understanding of ICD 10, ICD 9, diagnostic codes and ADA codes.
  • Providing presentations on various aspects of workers' compensation.

Skills in :
  • Offering consistent, exceptional internal and external customer service.
  • Performing a variety of tasks while remaining organized and accurate.
  • Using computers including Microsoft Office products and various database systems.

Ability to :
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships while displaying a team spirit.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical conclusions.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

The claims examining duties are performed in a typical office environment. This position spends a significant portion of their day on the phone and at a desk on the computer. Occasional in-state and possible out-of-state travel may be required to attend or provide training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Relevant bachelor's degree in business, economics or a medical related field.
  • Five years experience working directly in workers' compensation with specific claims examining experience.
  • Must have Montana Claims Examiner Certification for workers' compensation or the ability to obtain within 30 days of higher.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Your paycheck is just part of your total compensation package! Upon date of hire, employees working at least half-time for more than six months are eligible for state paid premiums toward employee “core” medical, dental, and basic life insurance coverage.
