DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for plumbing maintenance/construction duties in all phases of the plumbing trade within the Maintenance Department at Montana State Prison and other duties as assigned. This position communicates with the Maintenance Management Team as to the plumbing maintenance/construction needs at Montana State Prison. Maintains the plumbing/utility services at Montana State Prison by troubleshooting, reading blueprints and having and maintaining current licensure to perform all plumbing requirements of the institution. This position plans all work assigned to this position to maintain the best possible plumbing/ utility services throughout the facility. Maintains and repairs plumbing equipment, systems and components for all scheduled and emergency plumbing requirements. Operates and maintains all necessary equipment using safe operating techniques to ensure that all tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner. Performs all work in a safe and proper manner following established policies, general safety rules and safe operating procedures. Provides Montana State Prison with quality plumbing maintenance and construction to all areas including but not limited to Montana State Prison, the Ranch and Montana Correctional Enterprises, to assure that proper plumbing services and systems are provided. This position is also responsible for the supervision and training of an inmate work force. Incumbent selects, evaluates, and disciplines when required, an inmate work force to ensure compliance with the policies and procedures as outlined in the manuals held and updated by Montana State Prison. This position educates the selected inmate work force in the minuet repair and maintenance aspects of the plumbing trade while creating a positive experience that may lead to employment opportunities upon successful discharge from Montana State Prison.

This position is responsible to insure all Institutional Safety and Security policies and procedures are followed and that all documentation and reports are filled out and filed as required. This position performs damage control responsibilities as directed by the Maintenance Management Team to assess damages related to the plumbing trade and reporting all damages and corrective actions to the Maintenance Management Team for appropriate actions. Performs security duties as assigned to maintain security by following and adhering to the policies and procedures of Montana State Prison.

POSITION SPECIFIC INFORMATION:

This position must be able to perform in the environment of an Adult Correctional Facility. Must work under extremely stressful conditions, respond in emergency situations, work is performed in all areas of Montana State Prison and includes exposure to inmates who may be abusive and/or assaultive. You will be exposed to power tools, loud noises and fumes. The environment, equipment involved, and the nature of contact with all custody levels of inmates is such that extreme precautions are needed. You must be able to respond in the event of emergent situations. There is considerable standing and walking on concrete floors, and exposure to frequent temperature extremes. Involves considerable and repetitive heavy lifting (40 to 60 lbs.). During emergency situations, the physical demands and time required of the position increase considerably. Supervisors must be able to work long hours for extended periods of time and are subject to callouts as needed.



Qualifications:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Thorough knowledge of all phases and types of plumbing work, including but not limited to maintenance, construction, water distribution systems, natural gas distribution, sewage collection and treatment systems, heating and ventilation systems are required. Must be skilled in the use of hand and power tools, skilled in the operation of all types of support equipment; skilled in the plumbing / pipefitting profession. Must possess and maintain a Montana Journeyman's Plumbing License and be able to obtain a Montana Stationary Engineer's 3 rd class License, cross connection and backflow prevention licenses. Able to obtain a water distribution license. Must possess a valid Montana State Drivers license. Assists Plant Mangers with water distribution data collection and documentation for DEQ
