Systems Support Technician

Salary posted may be increased depending on experience and qualifications. This is a part time position of 30 hours a week.
Please note that MSL is not able to sponsor a visa at this time so all candidates must be eligible to work in the United States on a permanent basis when they apply.
Duties:
This position is a Systems Support Technician for the Montana State Library (MSL) Central Services IT Group. The position is responsible for implementing the analysis, development, and administration of the Library IT systems. This includes analyzing and evaluating existing and proposed systems and user requirements; implementing systems solutions to meet client needs; and providing technical assistance and maintenance support to end users.
The Systems Support Technician is a member of the MSL IT team which includes an IT Lead and a GIS DBA/Server Manager. The Systems Support Technician will work closely with all members of the IT team in the implementation of the MSL application, networking and server environment.
This position regularly provides back-up support and on-call support to other team functions. Other duties may include implementing information technology projects, providing input to the agency information technology plan and assisting in the development and enforcement of best practices, standards and policies.

This position requires knowledge of the concepts and theories of web development and desktop support. It requires knowledge and skills in the following areas: Programming languages such as C#, ASP, SQL; scripting languages such as JavaScript; markup languages such as HTML; the Microsoft development environment (.NET, SQL Server); and IIS7 configuration and management.
General knowledge, skills, and abilities include excellent organizational and time management skills; the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a wide range of people; the ability to maintain effective working relations with MSL employees, other state employees, computer vendors, and the general public. Lastly, the successful applicant will possess the ability to listen to conflicting opinions, facts, and needs; facilitate consensus; balance technology advances with the related people issues and make compromises for the best interests of all involved.
Other experience and training that would be beneficial, but is not required, includes an understanding of MSL’s mission, values and goals and proficiency with Microsoft products such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and Access.
Education/Experience:
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are usually acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a 2-year degree or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Other combinations of education and experience that could provide such knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
