Wastewater Specialist

The Specialist guides the statewide training and technical assistance program for wastewater treatment system operators and managers. Responsibilities include providing training to wastewater operators to meet certification requirements; conducting operations and maintenance inspections of both permitted and unpermitted wastewater treatment facilities to identify systems causing pollution to state waters; and providing expertise to optimize efficiency of pollutant removal in system performance.

Fieldwork at facilities may involve working in adverse weather conditions, with exposure to industrial equipment. The Specialist must be able to climb ladders, carry equipment, and walk on uneven surfaces. In dealing with the biological hazards associated with raw sewage and chemicals, the Specialist may be exposed to hazardous substances or chemicals.

Qualifications:



Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a science-based discipline and five years of experience in wastewater plant operations. Wastewater certification required.
